Orientation Leader Application

Manhattan College hires outstanding students to be orientation leaders each summer. The position offers housing and a stipend, as well as the opportunity to grow your leadership skills. The orientation office will cover housing and meals in addition to a $50 stipend for days worked. Regular work day hours are estimated from 9 am to 5 pm, and orientation day hours will range from 6 am to 12 am for day 1. Orientation day 2 hours will range from 7 am to 5 pm.


About Orientation

The purpose of summer orientation is to aid in the acclimation of new students to Manhattan College through interactions with the many members of the Manhattan College community. It is expected when students conclude orientation, they are made to feel confident in their choice of college and welcomed into the community, and capable of succeeding here.

Specific Responsibilities of Orientation Leaders

  • Planning and facilitating orientations (inclusive of handling mailings, ordering supplies, scheduling workshops and events, producing a presentation about campus life, displaying school pride)
  • Office work (managing emails and social media, answering phones, photocopying, faxing, creating a comprehensive calendar of opening activities, creating event advertisement, maintaining bulletin boards)
  • Corresponding with new students throughout the summer and fielding inquiries
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills required for successful Orientation Leader

  • Ability to assume responsibility, follow directives, work quickly and effectively under pressure
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge about Manhattan College campus life
  • Enthusiasm, work well as part of a team, goal-oriented

Manhattan Opens Doors (MODs) Peer Mentoring Program

The College is expanding the Orientation Leader role into the fall with the Manhattan Opens Doors (MODs) Peer Mentoring program. Data from Fall 2018 showed that students who engaged with the peer mentoring program were more successful than students who didn't.
