Visages Villages, co-directed with JR, is Varda's last work. Varda - la Grande dame du cinema - (the First Lady of the cinema) is considered the first woman film director and a leading voice of the New Wave. JR is a French graffiti artist and street photographer. In this documentary Varda and JR team up to combine cinema and street photography to portray people from villages throughout France. They create large portraits to plaster on the walls of surrounding houses, allowing unnoticed, unseen communities in small towns to take center stage.
