Student Engagement: The Players had a remarkable year at KCACTF!
In January, students from the Performing Arts Players Theatre group attended the Region 1 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival with Professor James Ryan Caldwell. Under the direction of Andrew Bauer and James Ryan Caldwell, the Players had a remarkable conference at KCACTF.
KCACTF is a week-long theatre festival and conference with opportunities for students to audition for scholarships, attend workshops, see outstanding college theatre from across the region, and make connections with students, faculty, and theatre professionals. While at the festival, the students made many impressive achievements:
Maria Summervile placed 3rd overall in the Richard Maltby, Jr. Award for Musical Theatre Excellence (out of 41 other competitors). Jenn Bueti and Camryn Kidney (along with their scene partners Peter Martino and Gabby Kasper) advanced to the semi-final round of the highly competitive Irene Ryan Scholarship Audition (they were 2 of 36 semi-finalists chosen out of 220 competitors). Alyssa Zyduniak and Kathryn Ronan gave presentations on the dramaturgical and stage manager work they had done on Manhattan College's fall play Dead Man's Cell Phone. And two students, Adam Granger and Maren Kain, were cast in the National Playwriting Program's play reading series of the region's top student one acts and ten-minute plays. Photos of the conference can be viewed on the Student Engagement Facebook page.
Congratulations to our Players Theatre group for their exceptional work this year and a huge thank you to Student Government for your support, as well as Dr. Mark Pottinger and Dr. Deirdre O'Leary for your continued support with the program!
