Slice of Social Justice: Emotional Labor in the Workplace

Friday April, 5th 12:30pm, Social Action Suite in Kelly Commons 203

Jolie Terrazas Ph.D., Visiting Assistant Professor of Management & Marketing

Genesis Valdez, MC Class of 2019, Management Major in the O'Malley School of Business

Did you ever have to smile and be polite as part of a job requirement? If so, you have performed what researchers call Emotional Labor. Much of the research on this topic, which is heavily focused on female-dominated customer service jobs, has shown that emotional labor can be a “hard” labor in that it contributes to short and long-term negative impacts, such as workplace stress and burnout. Dr. Terrazas and Genesis Valdez will lead a discussion on the hard labor of human resource professionals. Co-Sponsored by Campus Ministry & Social Action and the O'Malley School of Business
