Consistent with the College's Mission to prepare "graduates for lives of personal development, professional success, civic engagement, and service to their fellow human beings" and our Strategic Plan Key Strategy 1.3 that calls us to "Exemplify and enhance local and global civic engagement consistent with the social justice values of the College’s Lasallian Catholic identity, with particular attention to the alleviation of human suffering”, the Office of Mission is happy to share a recent announcement from Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, Superior General of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, about the launching of Beyond the Borders Initiatives. These initiatives are new, creative responses to serve those most in need, just as Saint John Baptist de La Salle went beyond the borders of his time by offering accessible education to vulnerable populations.
Initial projects have been selected based on the following criteria, the approved projects will:
be inserted in the program of the local Church dealing effectively with the mission needs of immigrants, refugees, the homeless, unemployed youth, and all vulnerable people, especially children and youth that are found on “the borders”;
include the existence of a mixed community of Brothers, lay volunteers and/or members of other Religious congregations;
be open to include vocation ministry and discernment in the context of a community life dedicated to the service of the poorest;
ensure an enriching community life and proper accompaniment of its members; and
