Please join the Holocaust and Genocide Interfaith (HGI) Education Center for a remembrance of Kristallnacht this Thursday, November 8 at 7pm on the fifth floor of Kelly Commons. Dinner will be served prior to the event.
At the beginning of the Kristallnacht remembrance, Mehnaz Afridi, Ph.D., Director of the HGI Center, will read the names of the 11 victims of the Pittsburgh shooting, followed by a candle lighting by students.
Rabea Ali, president of the Muslim Student Association, will then give a short speech about Kristallnacht, an incident that occurred in 1938 when Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses and killed close to 100 Jews.
The College's annual Schweitzer Lecture will follow the remembrance. Kevin Spicer, Ph.D., the James J. Kenneally Distinguished Professor of History at Stonehill College, will deliver a talk titled "Christian and Racial Antisemitism: The Intersection Under National Socialism."
